Responsibilities- The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements.
- Perform diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
- Perform mammographic imaging for breast needle localization procedures and stereotactic procedures, inclusive of set up and clean up.
- Assist in procedures using ultrasound guidance
- Provide immobilization devices, select proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and select and operate equipment for specific procedures.
- Identify patient's films with the correct name, x-ray number, and correctly mark film as to the side of the patient and initials all films.
- Develop exposed x-ray film by using processing methods
- Complete patient requisitions with the technologist's initials, date number, and size of films.
- Assist with quality control procedures and documenting of: phantom image, darkroom fog test, screen-film contact test, repeat analysis, fixer retention analysis, screen cleanliness, compression test, visual machine checks, processor quality control, view box, and reviewing conditions and darkroom cleanliness, as delegated by the Chief Mammography Technologist.
- Assist in BSE instruction and other patient education to include pre- and post-procedure instructions.
- Prepare cases to be imaged, including chart and films.
- Assist with compiling statistics for: patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, patients needing biopsies, ultrasound examinations, and follow-ups on positive biopsy reports.
- Document procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA.
- Ensure proper use of the Faxitron system.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
QualificationsJob Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- 2+ years’ experience performing Mammograms and Bone Density/DEXA scans.
- Registered for ARRT and licensed in the State of NJ.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Confidently explain imaging procedures to patients and take note of the patient’s medical history, which will be relevant to how the imaging procedure will be done.
- Meet CEU requirements for ARRT, comply with MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) and EQUIP (Enhancing Quality Using the Inspection Program).
