Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Trauma Program Director and Trauma Medical Director, the Injury Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for program design based on trauma registry data, developing/implementing intervention strategies, establishing hospital and community contacts and educational activities, developing patient information /education materials, and monitoring/evaluating outcomes, with functions to include staff education, public and EMS education, and coordination and participation with disaster planning exercises. Under the direction of the TMD, TPD, and Administrative Director for Trauma, this position is responsible and accountable for the coordination, development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention, prevention, education, and research. Promotes effective communication with EMS providers and long-term strategies to reduce preventable injuries. This position requires a thorough knowledge of local, regional, and state EMS regulations and injury prevention best practices. The Injury Prevention Coordinator, functioning in the spirit of teamwork, is accountable to providing optimal customer service to internal and external customers and functions within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.


The person is to collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team including physician and ancillary services to deliver quality health care. Assist with completion of the trauma PI plan in a concurrent fashion including weekly and monthly PI meetings, and other PI projects as needed such as preparation for site survey; works closely with the trauma registry to assure accurate concurrent data collection and identification of PI issues; creates clear action plans and initiates resolution of PI issues in coordination with the trauma surgical staff, trauma program director, trauma medical director and those specifically involved in the issue. The Injury Prevention Coordinator is responsible for meeting the Amercian College of Surgeons, State of Texas Trauma Center Standards, as well as JC standards, complying with all state and federal regulations, complying with corporate and hospital policy and procedures, promoting teamwork and positive customer service.

What qualifications you will need:


  • REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS


    REQUIRED


    • Associate Degree, Nursing, Paramedic License, or Bachelor of Public Health


    PREFERRED


    • Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science Nursing, or Master of Public Health



    PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES


    PREFERRED


    • If RN – Registered Nurse License in Texas. If Compact License, Texas License must be obtained within 90 days of hire


    • If RN – TNCC provider, or attain within 1 year of hire


    • If Paramedic – Paramedic License in Texas


    • BLS within 30 days of Hire
