What this job involves: The Facilities Maintenance/Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry tasks for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of commercial and residential properties. This role involves collaborating with a maintenance team to ensure facilities are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. The ideal candidate possesses strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team under minimal supervision.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks, focusing on carpentry work including framing, drywall installation, finish carpentry, and millwork
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair structural damage
- Construct and repair woodwork and other wooden structures
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or building plans
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff and contractors on larger projects
- Maintain inventory of carpentry supplies
- Respond to work orders and service requests promptly
- Assist in other maintenance tasks as required
Work Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 7:15 AM – 4 PM
- Subject to on-call 24 hours per day
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity
- Standing, walking, bending, and climbing, often for extended periods
- Work at heights and perform overhead work
- Able to work in close spaces (closets, crawl spaces, attics, vaults, etc.)
- Able to work on roofs of buildings
Environmental Conditions:
- Work in various settings, both indoors and outdoors
- Potential exposure to extreme conditions
- Work in industrial settings with varying temperatures, noise levels, and other environmental factors
Safety Compliance:
- Comprehensive knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to recognize, assess, and mitigate or eliminate risks
- Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Participate in safety committees and initiatives
- Promote a safe working environment
Desired or Preferred Experience and Technical Skills:
- Journeyman carpenter certification or vocational training in carpentry
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and protocols
- Excellent communication skills
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic or carpenter
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings
- Valid state driver's license
- Ability to work well with a team
- Physical capability to perform required job functions safely
