PURPOSE: We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer who will play a key role in validating and ensuring the smooth operation of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. This position requires expertise in industry standards and protocols, along with a deep understanding of system testing, troubleshooting, and performance analysis. The right candidate will contribute to the development and reliability of cutting-edge EV charging technologies.

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Verify the compatibility and performance of backend systems and charge points with Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) versions 1.6 and 2.0.1. OCPP 1.6 & OCPP 2.0.1
  • Test vehicle-to-infrastructure compatibility. DIN70121 & ISO15118
  • Collaborate with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to conduct full-scale system testing, covering vehicles, charging infrastructure, payment solutions, credit card terminals, and backend systems to ensure end-to-end integration.
  • Analyze real-world data from deployed chargers to identify performance issues, especially in the early stages of product launches.
  • Track data trends and make recommendations to improve system reliability, efficiency, and overall user experience.
  • Employ methods such as data mining, system log analysis, and stress testing to pinpoint, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in EV chargers.
  • Perform issue replication and isolation tests, developing timely and effective solutions for identified problems.
  • Drive, create, and automate test processes when possible
  • Provide technical assistance during the sales process, using online tools and applications.
  • Support customers during pre- and post-sales activities, including product delivery, installation, commissioning, and project handover.
  • Provide feedback to product managers to make sure product requirements and product roadmaps capture lessons learned from previous experiences and ongoing testing experiences.
  • Travel to customer sites to provide on-the-ground support for charger installations and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Engage with the engineering team through occasional travel to the Cleveland facility to assist with customer testing and other technical activities.
  • Participate in industry interoperability events and use these opportunities to build and foster strong relationships with prospective customers and development partners.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in testing EV charging systems or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with OCPP, DIN70121, ISO15118, and relevant industry protocols.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting, performance testing, and analyzing data to diagnose system issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operators and system providers.
  • Proven experience in monitoring and analyzing data from live field deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with both hardware and software components of EV charging infrastructure.
  • Expertise in system log analysis, troubleshooting frameworks, and optimizing system performance.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders within the EV ecosystem.
