Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of role experience is required from any number of months.

• 12 months of Medical Surgical / Telemetry Unit experience is required from any number of months.

• Travel experience is required from any number of months.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred from any number of months.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Maine license or compact license (required for submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >100 miles from facility to be submitted.• Flu vaccination required for submission. Medical declinations accepted.

Additional Details:

Housing in ME becomes more expensive in the summer months, beginning in May. Be sure to confirm you are comfortable with housing options before applying.

Roles requiring state licensure only: License should not expire within 45 days following start date

Travel Pairs: If you are in a relationship, EMMC will not schedule you on the same days. If you are not in a relationship, you can be scheduled for the same days if not on the same shift/unit. Managers will not guarantee the same schedule for travel pairs.

Guaranteed Hour: 48

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every other; occasionally back-to-back weekends – flexibility is key
  • Holiday Expectations: manager approval
  • RTO approval: Must be sent to Manager for approval
  • Schedule cycle: 4 weeks at a time; will receive 2 weeks in advance

Floating: Any other unit to care for patients within or below scope of practice

Beds: (48) on Merritt 3 - All beds have remote Telemetry monitoring capabilities

Patient Types - Surgical:

  • Bariatric: Gastric Bypass, Gastric sleeve
  • Vascular Surgeries: carotid endarterectomies, femoral endarterectomies, amputations, AAA repair, peripheral artery bypass grafts, fem-pop bypass
  • Urology: TURP, cysto, cystectomy, penectomy, nephrectomy, ureteral stents
  • General/GI: mastectomy, breast reduction; hemicolectomies, exploratory laps, bowel resection, cholecystectomy, colorectal surgeries; whipples
  • Ortho: total joint, ORIF, external fixation, Ortho Trauma
  • ENT: parotidectomy, neck dissection, and thyroidectomy
  • Plastics: muscle flaps, skin grafts
  • Neurosurgery: spinal fusions, laminectomies, craniotomies
  • Medical Overflow: CHF, Pneumonia, COVID, COPD, sepsis, cellulitis, GI Bleed, Chron’s, Vascular Gangrene, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, etc.

Skills required:

  • Telemetry experience (Cardiac rhythm interpretation) – will not transport patient on Tele but must be able to verify/interpret strips on the unit
  • General post-surgical experience is a MUST
  • Vascular surgical patients comprise a large portion of our patient population. This person would need to have the basic knowledge of what to look at and for (assessment-wise) with this type of patient.
  • Ortho post-op (total joints, ORIF) experience is preferred
  • Peripheral IV starts, tube feedings, TPN, Trach Care, Chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, drain management and removal (JP, Accordian), dressing changes, wound vacs
  • Comfortability to discontinue non-tunneled catheters, will wean patients off Epidural pump per order set, PCAs
  • Heparin Drips, Insulin Drips; NO cardiac drips or cardiac push meds
  • Please ask all travelers about charge experience and include in the offer info if they have/have not worked in a CRN capacity

RN: 2 years of Med/Tele experience – no exceptions

Basic EKG certification (ability to read/interpret cardiac rhythm strips)

Scrub Color: RN: Any color, must be professional

2 references from last 12 months (Manager/Supervisor reference type) - required for submission
