Registered Nurse (RN), Bed Capacity Management Coordinator Position Summary:

The Bed Capacity Management Coordinator manages patient bed placement and the utilization of beds in accordance with established standards and policies within the Lifepoint Central Kentucky market.

  • Determines patient priority and the ability to transfer patients between units and hospitals when requested beds exceed available beds.
  • Acts as a liaison for physicians and hospitals to facilitate the transfer of patients into the institution
  • Monitors workflow between the market and the transfer center
  • Uses advanced clinical knowledge to direct proper patient placement and utilization of beds in accordance with established standards and policies.
  • Utilizes advanced theory to provide transfer and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicates patients needs through appropriate verbal and written communications.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate and participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices and developments.
  • Collects and analyzes data from various hospital departments to appropriately determine patient placement.
  • Regularly reviews census and acuity information to determine or anticipate potential problems or trends and to prevent the disruption of services.
  • Serves as a resource to the transfer center and department Directors on bed status of hospital patient care unites and on placement of particular patients.
  • Supports and participates in research and related activities as needed. Helps identify problems and develops solutions and protocols to improve the quality of patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree Nursing (ADN) Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • Three years of recent (within the past 2 years) nursing experience that includes supervision and patient bed placement.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
