Primary Purpose:
The Process Control Engineer will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and will be responsible for the Chem Mill and Heat Treat Departments. This role is integral to ensuring the efficient and precise heat treatment and chemical milling processes, which are crucial for achieving the desired properties and performance standards of titanium castings. The engineer will be responsible for optimizing and maintaining heat treat processes, troubleshooting and improving chem milling techniques, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. This position requires a deep understanding of titanium metallurgy, materials science, and advanced engineering practices to drive innovation and enhance the overall quality and efficiency of our production operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control heat treat operations, including temperature, time, atmosphere, and quenching parameters, to ensure consistent and reliable results.
  • Ensure heat treat processes adhere to internal and external quality standards, customer specifications, and industry regulations (e.g., ASTM, AMS, ISO).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of heat treatment processes, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and process control plans, ensuring they are up to date.
  • Ensure all heat treat furnaces and related equipment are properly calibrated, maintained, and serviced to guarantee optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and refine chemical milling process parameters such as acid concentration, temperature, agitation, and immersion time to ensure consistent results.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve process-related issues, defects, or inconsistencies in the chem milling operation by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and update process control documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process control plans for chem milling.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen) to enhance the efficiency and reliability of chem milling operations.
  • Report on alpha case occurrences and trends, providing recommendations for process adjustments or improvements to reduce the risk of future formation.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.S. degree in engineering or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and a familiarity with SQL
  • Proficient with use of statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work well with production employees, supervisors, managers and customers.
  • Capable of performing statistical analysis and making data driven decisions.
  • Ability to collect, record and transcribe data. Present results in an industrial technical report format.
  • High degree of organizational skills.
  • Able to work effectively and simultaneously on numerous projects.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be willing to participate in pre-employment and periodic drug screening.
  • Must take a base line hearing test prior to starting.

Preferred:
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience specifically in Titanium manufacturing

Working Conditions:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but the employee will be exposed to higher noise levels when required to be in manufacturing areas.
  • The individual may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery, and vehicles when in the manufacturing areas.

Schedule:
  • Day Shift - Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm, Salaried
  • Must be flexible with schedule
  • May be required to start earlier or work later in the day and/or possible off-shift and weekend hours may be required depending upon production needs.
