Job Description

Job Title: Machine Operator Trainee

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to learn and operate specialized machinery that straightens stainless steel tubing in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will work closely with rotating equipment, assist experienced operators, and perform hands-on, labor-intensive tasks to ensure tubing is produced to precise quality standards. The position involves understanding work orders, executing production steps, and accurately entering data into the computer system to move product through the next stages of the process.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist in the operation of straightening machines used to process stainless steel tubing and pipe, with a focus on smaller, delicate tubes.
  • Configure and monitor machines to straighten tubes according to work orders and manufacturing specifications.
  • Maintain high production output by running the machine at high speeds while consistently meeting quality standards for tube straightness and finish.
  • Receive product bundles with attached work orders, review and interpret the instructions, and complete all required processing steps.
  • Accurately enter production data and work order information into the computer system upon completion of each task to ensure proper workflow to the next stage.
  • Perform manual labor throughout the process, including moving, shoving, pushing, and pulling tubing to correctly set up and feed machines.
  • Work on your feet for the entire shift in a labor-intensive environment, handling tubing and materials as needed.
  • Use measuring tools and equipment, such as micrometers and calipers, to verify dimensions and quality when required.
  • Monitor machine performance and product output, identifying and addressing issues that could affect quality, productivity, or safety.
  • Follow all safety procedures when working around loud, rotating equipment and in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities within the department as operations and staffing needs evolve.
  • Clearly explain previous machine operation or manufacturing experience during interviews, including the types of machines used and specific tasks performed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing role, with an understanding of work orders and manufacturing processes.
  • Background in production, general labor, or similar hands-on industrial work.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed work orders and instructions.
  • Experience as a machine operator, assembly worker, or production worker, or strong mechanical manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to use measurements and tools on a daily basis, such as those commonly used in skilled trades like plumbing or carpentry.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and work on your feet throughout a 10-hour shift.
  • Comfort working around loud, rotating equipment in a labor-intensive environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to maintain both high speed and high quality in production.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to describe previous work experience and machine operation in detail during interviews.
  • Willingness to interview in person or by video as part of the hiring process.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any prior machine operating experience of any kind is highly preferred.
  • Mechanical manufacturing experience is valuable for success in this role.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers is a plus.
  • CNC experience or Background is a plus and may support higher compensation, though it is not required.
  • Experience in skilled trades such as plumbing or carpentry, involving daily use of measurements and tools, is beneficial.
  • Flexibility to work either 1st shift (4:00 AM 2:30 PM) or 2nd shift (2:00 PM 12:30 AM), including training on 1st shift for approximately one month for 2nd shift roles.
  • Ability to work a typical schedule of four 10-hour days per week, with some variability on Fridays, generally totaling around 40 hours per week.

Why Work Here?

You will join a large, established manufacturing operation where your contribution directly impacts production performance and product quality. The role offers meaningful hands-on experience, opportunities to learn specialized machinery, and cross-training within the department as staffing needs evolve. As you grow in the position, there is a clear path to becoming a permanent employee, typically with a notable hourly rate increase. The environment values reliability, mechanical aptitude, and a strong work ethic, providing a stable schedule and the chance to build a long-term career in manufacturing.

Work Environment

The position is based in a very large, non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility that produces stainless steel tubing. The environment can be loud due to rotating equipment and may be hot depending on the area of the plant and season. You will work around heavy machinery and moving tubes, spending your entire shift on your feet in a labor-intensive setting. Available schedules include 1st shift (4:00 AM 2:30 PM) and 2nd shift (2:00 PM 12:30 AM), typically structured as four 10-hour days per week with some variation on Fridays, generally totaling about 40 hours per week. Candidates for 2nd shift will train on 1st shift for about a month, with flexibility to adjust if they cannot work 1st shift at all.
