Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Fort Worth, TX
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000
Position Overview
This role is best suited for an accounting professional with experience in transportation, logistics, freight, or other high-volume transactional environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of general accounting principles, month-end close processes, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting operational leaders, and helping drive the continued growth of the organization through sound accounting practices and financial analysis.
Target Background
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within transportation, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or other high-volume industries
- Experience working with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations
- Experience analyzing financial data and identifying discrepancies
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial reporting
- Experience working with ERP systems or accounting software
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Analyze freight revenue, operating expenses, fuel costs, and other key business metrics
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Review customer billing and freight invoices to ensure accuracy and timely processing
- Prepare financial reports, variance analyses, and supporting schedules for management
- Assist with cash flow reporting and budgeting initiatives
- Support external audits and provide requested documentation
- Identify process improvement opportunities and help streamline accounting procedures
- Partner with Operations, Dispatch, Customer Service, and Leadership teams to support business objectives
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting fundamentals
- Experience with account reconciliations and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and operational teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Transportation, logistics, freight, or distribution industry experience
- CPA or CPA-track candidate
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Dynamics, Oracle, or Sage
- Experience supporting multi-location operations
- Public accounting experience
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
