Managing Director - Workforce Development

Our client, an established organization providing workforce and career services, is seeking an experienced Managing Director to oversee operations in the Austin market.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for overall program performance, operational strategy, financial management, team development, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder relationships. The Managing Director will work closely with executive leadership while serving as a key point of contact for community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings significant leadership experience within workforce development, economic development, publicly funded programs, or a closely related environment and is comfortable managing complex, multi-program operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and accountability for workforce development programs and operations.
• Develop and execute operational strategies, policies, procedures, and performance initiatives.
• Partner with executive leadership to establish and achieve short- and long-term organizational goals.
• Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets to ensure appropriate allocation of program resources.
• Establish and track performance measures, identify areas requiring improvement, and implement corrective strategies when necessary.
• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing management team while establishing succession plans for key positions.
• Ensure programs and services remain compliant with applicable federal, state, local, and contractual requirements.
• Maintain strong relationships with government agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, employers, and other workforce partners.
• Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships that expand services and improve outcomes for job seekers and employers.
• Promote a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Manage multiple programs, priorities, locations, and stakeholder groups in a highly visible leadership capacity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably within workforce development, economic development, public-sector programs, or a related field.
• 7+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex programs, operations, teams, and performance objectives.
• Strong understanding of workforce development programs and the regulatory environment surrounding publicly funded services.
• Experience developing and managing budgets and operational performance metrics.
• Knowledge of labor-market conditions, employment trends, community development, and education/workforce partnerships.
• Strong strategic planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to lead and develop teams while effectively delegating responsibility and maintaining accountability.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build productive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Bilingual English/Spanish capabilities are preferred.
• Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of certain educational requirements.
