The Risk Manager is responsible for the management of various insurance policies and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements, as well as payment and performance bonds. The Risk Manager will monitor and manage insurance claims asserted by, on behalf of, or against the company under general liability policies as well as builder’s risk policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage Insurance and Bond Program, including renewals
- Responsible for driving carriers to resolve claims quickly
- Point of contact for sureties and carriers to respond to questions about claims
- Manage larger claims in conjunction with Chief Risk Officer, General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel
- Surety Bonds - bid bonds, P&P bonds, maintenance bonds, permit bonds, miscellaneous bonds as needed, consents of surety
- Certificates of Insurance - COIs for S&P and subsidiaries; create project-specific sample COIs for distribution to trade partners; review insurance requirements in customer contracts
- Subcontractor COIs - review for compliance with project requirements; work with project team on variances
- Builders Risk - applications, renewals, material changes, report and manage claims, quarterly job reporting
- Property & Casualty Insurance Claims - report claims, manage progress, coordinate between adjusters and project team, collaborate with safety team on Workers Comp trends
- Bond Claims - coordinate between surety and Accounts Payable and project team, process notices of intent
- Business/Contractors Licensing - research state requirements, process new applications and annual renewals
- Loss Control - work with BMB, safety, and other departments on loss control improvements and updating processes/procedures
- Property/Casualty Insurance - annual renewal exposures and applications, applications for project-specific policies outside of corporate program, report and manage claims
- Notary applications and renewals
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of ten years' experience working with insurance claims in the design and construction industry, including:
- Commercial General Liability (construction defects, personal injury, property damage, etc.)
- Builder’s Risk
- Workers’ Comp
- Litigation management (close monitoring counsel to stay abreast of developments and steering claims toward resolution)
- Subrogation (working with counsel and carriers to assist in subrogation efforts)
- Close review of insurance agreements, including coverage/exclusions
- Submission of proofs of claim and supporting data to ensure maximum coverage
- Thorough understanding of claim file handling from inception through establishing reserves and settlement negotiations.
- Thorough understanding of litigation process, including discovery, mediation and trial.
- Experience managing statutory and common law payment and performance bonds.
