TheMedical Assistant Externship Coordinatorplays a key role in bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice for aspiring Medical Assistants. This position is responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with externship sites to ensure students gain valuable hands-on experience in real-world healthcare settings.
The Coordinator oversees the operational and compliance aspects of the externship program while ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role is essential to fostering student success, improving employability outcomes, and strengthening the institution’s partnerships within the medical community.
ResponsibilitiesSecure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring a variety of placement opportunities.
Achieve and maintain aminimum 40% extern-to-hire conversion rateacross assigned sites.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor student performance, address concerns, and maintain strong relationships with externship partners.
Ensure compliance withfederal, state, and accreditation requirements, including TWC regulations.
Collaborate withCareer Services and Placement teamsto support students’ transition from externship to employment.
Provide guidance to students regardingattendance, professionalism, and performance expectationsduring externships.
Conduct externship orientations and assist students withresume writing and interview preparation.
Maintain accurate documentation, includingtimecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
Track student progress throughout the externship and ensure completion offinal evaluations and exit interviews.
Promote the externship program throughoutreach and networking within the medical community.
Minimum of3 years of practical experience in the medical field.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)credential required.
Phlebotomy CertificationandPatient Care Technician (PCT) Certificationrequired.
CPR certificationpreferred.
No prior teaching experience required; training will be provided.
