Job Description

This role focuses on transforming innovative modular wall system designs into precise technical drawings and manufacturing documentation. The Draftsman supports a niche design and manufacturing operation that delivers easy-to-install modular wall systems for retail, construction, showrooms, hospitality, professional, and medical environments. You will use advanced CAD tools, including Autodesk Inventor and Vault (or equivalent), to produce detailed shop and assembly drawings, bills of materials, and 3D models that enable efficient production in a fast-paced, project-based manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and produce detailed technical drawings and plans, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings based on design specifications and project requirements.
  • Create and edit shop drawings, assembly drawings, and associated bills of materials (BOM) for modular wall systems, architectural fixtures, architectural products, and prefabricated building materials.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand design concepts, address design challenges, and ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Review, revise, and update existing drawings and 3D models based on feedback from project teams, ensuring all changes are accurately reflected in final documents and manufacturing packages.
  • Ensure all drafting work complies with relevant building codes, industry standards, and internal design and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Use Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D modeling software such as Solidworks) and Autodesk Vault (or Solidworks PDM) to manage models, drawings, and related data throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain organized project documentation, ensuring all drawings, files, and revisions are accurately stored, version-controlled, and readily accessible.
  • Mentor and guide junior drafters by providing technical support, sharing best practices, and reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Produce clear and accurate 3D models and visualizations to support design reviews, client presentations, and internal decision-making.
  • Apply strong attention to detail to create precise, error-free drawings and bills of materials that support efficient manufacturing and installation.
  • Manage time effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, project-based manufacturing environment, prioritizing tasks and coordinating with project teams as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends, building codes, and software advancements, continuously improving drafting techniques and CAD proficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting enhancements to drafting standards, workflows, and documentation practices.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a drafter, detailer, or 3D modeler producing manufacturing shop drawings.
  • High level of proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software, with strong experience creating detailed models, shop drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault or Solidworks PDM for managing CAD data, revisions, and bills of materials.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Revit as a plus for projects involving architectural coordination.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and architectural principles, including design concepts and construction methodologies.
  • Proven ability to create and manage bills of materials (BOM) accurately and efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge of reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting for manufacturing, particularly in wall systems, architectural fixtures, architectural products, or prefabricated building materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with a track record of producing precise and error-free drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, taking initiative and contributing to shared project goals.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with designers, engineers, and other professionals.
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills for addressing design and manufacturing challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing products for the fixture and modular wall industry is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards is an advantage.
  • 3D modeling and visualization skills to support design reviews and presentations.
  • Experience creating and editing shop drawings specifically for modular wall systems and related architectural products.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and a mindset focused on refining processes, standards, and documentation.
  • Experience in project-based manufacturing environments, especially those focused on prefabricated or modular solutions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and workload in a deadline-driven setting.
