We’re seeking experiencedGeneral Engineersfor an upcoming opportunity at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. This role is ideal for a licensed engineer with hospital experience who can support construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects in an active healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and scope facility projects
• Review engineering and construction documents
• Evaluate code compliance and constructability
• Prepare project scopes, estimates, and schedules
• Maintain project risks and supporting documentation
• Coordinate with clinical and facility teams
• Plan outages and construction activities
• Minimize risks to patients and staff
• Investigate facility-system failures
• Perform root-cause analyses
• Recommend repairs and capital improvements
• Follow VA and healthcare-facility standards

Qualifications

• CurrentProfessional Engineer (PE) license
• At least5 years of hospital engineering experience
• Experience with healthcare construction projects
• Knowledge of engineering and construction reviews
• Experience with project planning and oversight
• Ability to develop costs, schedules, and scopes
• Strong risk-analysis and documentation skills
• Knowledge ofNFPA 101 and NFPA 99
• Familiarity with Joint Commission requirements
• Knowledge of VA requirements is preferred
• Ability to meet VA onboarding requirements

Schedule

The facility operates 24 hours a day. Available shifts may include:

• 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
• 3:30 PM–12:00 AM
• 11:30 PM–8:00 AM

Final shift assignments will be determined by the VA and may change based on facility needs. Federal holiday coverage may be required.
