Tax Manager - Public Accounting
Step into a high-visibility leadership role at an established Dayton CPA and financial advisory firm, where you will manage complex client engagements, mentor rising tax professionals, and work directly alongside firm partners on strategic growth.
What you'll do
Review and sign off on complex federal, state, and local tax returns across corporate, partnership, trust, estate, and high-net-worth individual engagements
Serve as the primary relationship owner for a diverse portfolio of middle-market business clients, delivering proactive year-round tax planning and advisory solutions
Evaluate and resolve IRS and state tax authority notices, representing client interests with technical rigor
Conduct specialized technical tax research, authoring well-supported memos to guide internal teams and client decision-making
Lead, mentor, and evaluate tax seniors and staff accountants - providing constructive, real-time feedback that drives professional growth
Collaborate with shareholders and senior leadership on practice development, client proposals, and strategic consulting engagements
Oversee engagement economics, workflow scheduling, budgets, and project timelines to ensure on-time delivery
What you need
5+ years of progressive tax experience within a public accounting firm
Active CPA license
Strong technical background reviewing business entity returns (1065, 1120, 1120S) and individual returns (1040)
Proven track record managing client relationships independently and delivering advisory-level guidance
Proficiency with modern tax preparation, research, and workflow platforms (e.g., UltraTax CS, CCH Axcess, or GoSystem)
Nice to have
Prior experience supervising or mentoring tax staff in a public accounting setting
Exposure to estate, trust, or fiduciary tax returns (1041, 706, 709)
Industry experience with privately held businesses, manufacturing, real estate, or closely held enterprises
Pay & benefits
Base salary: $120,000-$160,000 per year, commensurate with experience
