About This RoleJourney Preschool and Journey Together PreK are two early childhood programs in the Silver Spring/Wheaton area serving children ages 2–5. Both participate in Maryland EXCELS at Level 5 and are nationally accredited through NAFCC. We’re looking for a dependable, caring substitute to join our team and keep our classrooms running smoothly.
About the Role
As our on-call substitute, you’ll cover for a Lead Teacher or Director at either program when they are sick or taking time off. You’ll step in so the children’s day keeps going without disruption, with the same quality of care and learning families count on.
What You'll Do- Carry out the day’s lesson plans as written by the classroom teacher
- Supervise children at all times, keeping them safe indoors and outdoors
- Follow daily routines, including arrival, meals, rest time, transitions, and pickup
- Cover Director duties when needed, such as greeting families, answering questions, and overseeing the day’s operations
- Follow all licensing, health, and safety rules
- Leave a short note at the end of the day so the regular teacher or Director knows how it went
Requirements- Completion of the 90-hour pre-service training
- Background check and fingerprinting
- Signed release of information
- Medical record (health form)
Nice To Haves- CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience working with children ages 2–5
- A CDA, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field
- Ability to cover on short notice, including early mornings
- A second language, such as Spanish
