This role ensures that vehicles, equipment, pedestrians, and workers move safely through and around construction zones while keeping unauthorized personnel and hazards out of restricted areas. The ideal candidate stays alert, prioritizes safety at all times, and communicates clearly with both construction teams and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic flagging duties to guide vehicles, equipment, and pedestrians safely around or through construction zones.
  • Maintain a clear and hazard-free work area by monitoring site boundaries and promptly removing or reporting obstructions.
  • Communicate effectively with equipment operators, truck drivers, and site supervisors to coordinate safe movement within the work zone.
  • Set up, inspect, and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, barricades, and flagging equipment.
  • Monitor site access to ensure only authorized personnel enter restricted or controlled areas.
  • Follow all safety protocols and immediately report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with general labor tasks as needed, including site cleanup, material handling, and basic support for construction crews.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and correctly when supporting construction activities.
  • Support the overall organization of the job site to promote efficient and safe workflow.

Essential Skills

  • Prior experience in construction, traffic control, or flagging preferred but not required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong situational awareness and a consistent commitment to safety.
  • Clear verbal communication skills to interact with workers, drivers, and the public.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.

Work Environment

The role takes place on active construction sites, including roofing and related environments, where you work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year. You spend much of the day on your feet, positioned at or near traffic control points, site access points, or within designated work zones. The culture emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork, with crews that work closely together and maintain a strong sense of mutual support. Team size may vary by project, but you can expect to work in a close-knit group where communication and coordination are essential. Typical hours align with standard construction schedules, which may include early start times and occasional schedule adjustments based on project needs. You use tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools, cones, signs, barricades, and flagging devices, along with required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for construction and roofing environments.
