Job Description

Job Description
Job Title: Systems EngineerJob Description

The Systems Engineer will contribute to the design, development, integration, and modification of complex systems and subsystems, with a focus on hardware and real-time systems used in advanced defense applications. This role involves performing functional and empirical analyses, supporting requirements definition and decomposition, and participating in validation and testing activities to ensure robust and reliable system performance.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and modification of systems and subsystems for mission-critical products, focusing on hardware, real-time operating systems, and related software components.
  • Perform functional and empirical analysis to support the design, development, and implementation of hardware, systems, and subsystems.
  • Conduct requirements analysis using tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next, or similar platforms to capture, trace, and manage system requirements.
  • Decompose top-level system requirements into detailed, actionable lower-level requirements for subsystems and components.
  • Support systems-level troubleshooting and debugging during validation and testing to ensure requirements are correctly implemented and verified.
  • Participate in systems integration and test activities, including integration of hardware and software and verification of end-to-end system functionality.
  • Use Matlab for data analysis, data analytics, and interpretation of test results to drive system improvements and validate performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams working on systems engineering, software development, mission assurance, command and control, displays, and weapons control systems.
  • Contribute to documentation of system designs, test procedures, and analysis results to maintain clear and traceable engineering records.
  • Support multiple programs, such as ship self-defense systems and ballistic missile defense, by applying systems engineering best practices to diverse product lines.
  • Apply knowledge of Linux-based environments during systems integration and test to support configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance reliability and efficiency.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in Matlab for data analysis and data analytics, including processing, visualizing, and interpreting complex data sets.
  • Experience with requirements analysis tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next, JAZZ, or similar platforms, including capturing, tracing, and managing system requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to decompose top-level system requirements into detailed subsystem and component requirements.
  • Experience with systems-level troubleshooting and debugging in the validation and testing of requirements.
  • Knowledge of systems integration and test practices, including integration of hardware and software in complex systems.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems in the context of systems integration, test, and real-time environments.
  • For Level 2 roles: 24 years of experience in requirements analysis, data analytics, integration and test, systems integration, and Matlab.
  • For Level 3 roles: 57 years of experience in requirements analysis, data analytics, integration and test, systems integration, and Matlab.
  • Solid foundation in systems engineering principles and practices applied to complex, multi-component systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and their application in mission-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering tools such as Cameo or similar platforms.
  • Background in software development supporting systems engineering and integration activities.
  • Exposure to defense-related programs such as missile defense, ship self-defense systems, command and control, displays, and weapons control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively on long-term programs with evolving requirements and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills suited to a complex technical environment.
Work Environment

Work is primarily performed on-site in a stable, long-term defense program environment supporting advanced naval defense systems. The role is largely desk-based, with regular use of engineering tools such as Matlab, requirements management platforms (e.g., DOORS, DOORS Next, JAZZ), Linux-based systems, and model-based systems engineering tools like Cameo. The position includes periodic visits to laboratory facilities for integration and testing activities, where engineers interact with hardware, software, and system test setups across programs such as ship self-defense systems, ballistic missile defense, mission assurance, command and control, displays, and weapons control systems. The schedule follows a 9/80 work pattern, providing every other Friday off and offering flexibility in paid time off. The work is anchored in a long-established, globally utilized missile defense program, providing a stable and collaborative environment focused on high-impact, mission-critical technology.
