Job Description

DESE Research is seeking a Senior Missile Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the successful design, development, and validation of real-time physics-based truth models.

Position is contingent upon contract award.

The successful candidate will:
• Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex high-fidelity physics-based plant models and truth environments.
• Evaluate customer/operational needs to define and coordinate flight dynamic requirements, integrate algorithmic parameters and assure compatibility of all software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation interfaces.
• Perform various analyses to optimize real-world environmental effects, kinematics, and target signature simulations within real-time environments.
• Perform analyses for seeker performance tracking, aerodynamic boundaries, sensor noise, control loop latencies, sensor integration, and other specialties that factor into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

Position Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with system requirements and specifications of the design and development of mathematical plant models for real-time applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including guidance-navigation-control (GNC), software, and test engineers, to integrate physics models into the HWIL testbed.
• Define and document the simulation software's architecture, math solvers, and multi-body dynamics algorithms.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and testing guidelines in the verification and certification of truth models.
• Support test plans and procedure development to verify the performance and accuracy of flight dynamics models against empirical test data.
• Support the troubleshooting and resolution of any modeling issues, math discrepancies, or solver drift caught during integration phases.

Required Qualifications:
• Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or a related discipline
• Experience with 6-Degrees-of-Freedom (6-DoF) model derivation and mathematical plant development AND/OR Experience compiling and embedding MATLAB/Simulink representations into real-time processors.
• Simulation or GNC engineering experience (7+ years) including algorithmic optimization, vehicle dynamics, and requirement derivation.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to aerospace simulation fidelity.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in modeling interceptor propulsion, atmospheric flight, or tracking sensors.
• Knowledge of C/C++ auto-coding tools and code optimization for real-time target environments.
• Proficiency in using engineering software tools for modeling, simulation, and analysis (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE Configuration Desk, Python).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex mathematical models and troubleshoot code errors.
