Our client, Swish Data, is a rapidly growing Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and leading Value-Added Reseller (VAR) serving the U.S. Federal Government. With $400M+ in annual revenue, Swish Data provides technology products, software, cloud solutions, and professional services to civilian and defense agencies.

They are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to strengthen their accounting leadership team and support the company's continued growth.

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller and play a critical leadership role in managing the company's accounting operations, financial close, compliance, and internal controls. This position requires significant experience within a government contracting VAR environment, including high-volume product sales, vendor rebates, federal customer billing, and complex revenue recognition.

This is a highly visible role with opportunities to improve processes, mentor staff, and support strategic financial initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Controller with day-to-day management of the 4 person accounting department.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with the U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and month-end reporting.
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide coaching and professional development.
  • Support annual financial statement audits and government compliance audits.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Partner with Operations, Contracts, Procurement, and Sales on accounting issues related to federal contracting and VAR operations.
  • Review revenue recognition, vendor rebates, manufacturer incentives, and other VAR-specific accounting activities.
  • Assist with cash flow management, working capital analysis, and forecasting.
  • Support ERP optimization and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare management reports and financial analyses for executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable FAR, CAS (as applicable), and government contracting requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience within a government contracting Value-Added Reseller (VAR).
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience managing monthly close in a mid-to-large organization.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems used in government contracting environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SDVOSB, small business, or federal government contracting organizations.
  • Experience supporting external audits.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition related to product resale, software licensing, cloud services, and manufacturer programs.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, or similar ERP systems.
