We are seeking an experienced Shop Manager to lead our equipment maintenance and repair operations. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for keeping our fleet of trucks, paving equipment, construction equipment, and support vehicles safe, reliable, and ready for the field.

The Shop Manager will lead our maintenance team, establish repair and preventive maintenance priorities, manage parts and outside vendors, and work closely with Operations to minimize equipment downtime and keep our crews productive.

The right candidate is a strong leader who understands heavy equipment and fleet maintenance and takes pride in running an organized, efficient, and accountable shop.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Lead and manage the daily operation of the maintenance shop and maintenance team.
  • Prioritize repairs and maintenance based on operational and production needs.
  • Ensure trucks, paving equipment, construction equipment, trailers, and support vehicles are properly maintained and field-ready.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repairs when needed.
  • Manage work orders, maintenance records, inspections, service schedules, and equipment histories.
  • Maintain appropriate parts and supply inventory while controlling unnecessary costs.
  • Coordinate outside repairs and manage relationships with equipment dealers, parts suppliers, and service vendors.
  • Work closely with Operations and field leadership to communicate equipment status, downtime, and repair priorities.
  • Monitor equipment condition and provide recommendations regarding major repairs, replacement, and future capital equipment needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional shop environment.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with company safety policies and applicable DOT and OSHA requirements.
  • Track maintenance costs and identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability and operating efficiency.
  • Build accountability within the maintenance department for quality, productivity, safety, and equipment uptime.

Qualifications -

  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment, truck, fleet, or construction equipment maintenance.
  • Previous supervisory or shop management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel trucks, heavy construction equipment, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience with paving, milling, or asphalt maintenance equipment is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple repairs and make sound decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Comfortable using computerized maintenance, work-order, and equipment-tracking systems.
  • Valid driver's license required.
