Job Title: Warehouse AssociateJob Description

The Warehouse Associate accurately counts, locates, inspects, and handles food and non-food items while performing a wide range of general warehouse duties. This role focuses on filling orders, loading and unloading trucks, moving and locating products, supporting volunteer projects, and maintaining a clean, safe, and food-safe distribution center. The position works in a warehouse environment with some outdoor exposure and frequent changes in temperature.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately fill agency orders by using warehouse technology systems to pull products from designated locations, scan products and rack labels, and load cases onto pallets for shipping or pick-up.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels by performing regular inventory counts with a target of at least 95% accuracy.
  • Secure products on pallets by safely stacking and shrink wrapping items to ensure stability during transport.
  • Safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling tools, while following all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Assist other departments within operations based on daily warehouse needs and priorities.
  • Maintain a high level of sanitation and cleanliness throughout the building, including assigned racks, freezer areas, and cooler locations.
  • Complete daily warehouse sanitation logs and equipment checklists to support proper maintenance of warehouse equipment.
  • Adhere to and follow all AIB Food Safety practices and procedures in daily tasks.
  • Check and load the NOVA transfer truck to ensure timely and accurate transfers.
  • Backfill for the NOVA terminal as needed to support continuous operations.
  • Backfill the Agency Mart Lead when required to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Backfill for the Receiving team as needed, including assisting with shipping and receiving activities.
  • Cross-train and provide support across the Operations department to promote flexibility and coverage.
  • Support volunteer projects within the warehouse, providing direction and assistance as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the distribution center by following food safety, sanitation, and company cleanliness guidelines.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support overall warehouse operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least a high school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a warehouse or operations environment.
  • Experience using handheld scanning devices and warehouse technology systems, including RF scanners.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, forklift, and pallet jack with a valid license.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Experience with inventory control, including counting, tracking, and maintaining accurate stock levels.
  • Proficiency in general warehouse operations such as picking, packing, loading, unloading, and material handling.
  • Ability to adhere to warehouse safety practices regulated by OSHA.
  • Ability to follow AIB Food Safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, and agency representatives.
  • Excellent customer service skills when supporting internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work as a team player in a dynamic environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with RF scanners and other warehouse technology tools used for picking, packing, and inventory control.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving functions, including loading and unloading trucks.
  • Ability to maintain detailed sanitation logs and equipment checklists.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when filling orders and performing inventory counts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a semi-climate-controlled environment with exposure to coolers and varying temperatures.
  • Comfort working in a setting that includes both indoor warehouse spaces and some outdoor exposure.
  • Capability to support multiple operational areas through cross-training, including transfers, agency support, and receiving.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse environment that is semi-climate controlled, with regular work in coolers and other temperature-controlled areas. You will experience frequent changes in temperature and some outdoor exposure during the workday, particularly when loading and unloading trucks or handling transfer operations. The position involves regular use of warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other material handling tools. The workday includes physical tasks such as lifting, stacking, wrapping pallets, and moving products throughout the distribution center. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to OSHA safety standards and AIB Food Safety guidelines, with a strong focus on cleanliness, sanitation, and maintaining detailed logs and equipment checklists.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington D.C., DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.03 - $24.03/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
