About boisei labs
boisei labs is a venture studio that builds ambitious "tech for good" companies focused on social impact, green technology, and other meaningful problems. We develop multiple ventures in parallel, moving from early research and product definition through development, launch, and growth.
Our small team works quickly and tests ideas early. Because our ventures are at different stages, interns gain exposure to the decisions and work required to move a new company from an initial idea toward launch.
About the Internship
This paid summer internship gives software engineering students the opportunity to build early-stage products inside a venture studio. You will contribute to prototypes, user-facing features, internal tools, and technical experiments for one or more ventures. The role is centered on software implementation, testing, and technical problem-solving.
Projects may change as the team tests assumptions and learns from users. This internship is a strong fit for someone who enjoys open-ended technical problems, advocates for thoughtful solutions, and can adapt when new information changes the product plan.
What You Will Do
- Build and improve product prototypes, user-facing features, and internal tools.
- Write, test, review, and document code with support from the engineering team.
- Use Git and GitHub to manage work, collaborate with teammates, and document technical decisions.
- Contribute to user interface implementation and work with product and design teammates to improve usability.
- Evaluate technical feasibility and compare implementation approaches for new product concepts.
- Turn product priorities into scoped technical tasks and communicate dependencies or risks early.
- Present product demos and explain technical choices or tradeoffs to the team.
- Use AI-assisted development and testing tools thoughtfully, and verify the quality and accuracy of their output.
What We Are Looking For
- Current junior or senior pursuing an undergraduate degree, or a current graduate student, in computer science, software engineering, information sciences, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Interest in ethical technology, social impact, green technology, or other "tech for good" work.
- Experience building software through coursework, research, hackathons, internships, or personal projects.
- Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language and a foundation in web development concepts.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Ability to learn quickly, communicate clearly, and ask for context when needed.
- Comfort working in an evolving environment where priorities and assumptions frequently change.
- Ability to manage assigned work, follow through on commitments, and raise risks or questions early.
Preferred Experience
- JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern web framework such as React.
- User interface development with tools such as Tailwind or Material UI.
- Software testing fundamentals, including unit testing.
- Mobile development, cloud infrastructure, blockchain technology, or another area relevant to an active venture.
- AI-assisted coding and testing tools.
What Makes This Internship Different
Interns at boisei labs do more than observe. You may build a feature that moves a product forward, compare technical approaches, and participate in meetings that provide context for your work. Previous interns have valued the opportunity to advocate for their ideas, adapt as priorities changed, and take meaningful ownership of their work.
boisei labs also treats ethics as part of the development process. Interns will see how the team considers social and environmental impact while designing products and deciding what to build.
