Wunderlich-Malec has an Associate Engineer opportunity available in our Winslow, ME office. This position supports delivery of electrical power system solutions through engineering design and analysis activities. The Associate Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop technical skills, contribute to project execution, and support client requirements while working under the guidance of experienced engineers. Success in this role is demonstrated through continuous learning, quality deliverables, and the ability to independently execute assigned engineering tasks.

Technology
- Assist in the design, development, analysis, and implementation of electrical power systems, ensuring alignment with client requirements
- Support the design and application of power distribution, protection and control, or physical substation specializations for industrial, renewable, data center, and utility infrastructure projects
- Support power system studies, calculations, and modeling efforts using industry-standard software tools to evaluate and improve system performance, as necessary in support of either protection and control or physical substation design specializations
- In protection and control, develop and revise electrical design documents including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay schematics, and control panel layouts
OR
- In physical substation design, develop and revise power one lines and phasing diagrams, control enclosure layouts, elevations and details, substation yard layouts and elevations, conduit plans and details, grounding plans and details, lighting plans and details, outage plans and construction sequencing plans
- Conduct engineering calculations, research, and analysis to support power system design decisions and equipment selection
- Verify proper configuration and communication of field devices, including network-integrated systems
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities to validate system performance against design requirements, if required
Projects
- Collaborate with internal teams and external multidisciplinary teams to support project objectives
- Work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to project planning and execution
- Support project documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks
- Identify and pursue opportunities for technical and professional growth
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into project deliverables
- Independently execute small-to-medium tasks from technical design through completion
- Demonstrate adherence to quality standards, project procedures, and engineering best practices
Field Work & Travel
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for on-site meetings, or other site activities, when required
- Comply with safety protocols and client-specific requirements
- Valid driver’s license and international passport (or ability to obtain quickly)
- Assist with on-site installation, testing, and startup of engineering systems, if required
- Ensure electrical equipment, protection devices, control panels, and associated power system components have been designed in accordance with manufacturer requirements, project specifications, and approved design documentation
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical) preferred
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology with relevant experience may be considered
- 0 to 4 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering
- Entry-level internship or co-op experience in engineering is a plus

Physical Demands Office Environment:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods while working at a computer or attending meetings
- Manual dexterity sufficient for typing and using standard office tools
- Visual acuity for reading technical drawings, documents, and computer screens
The following requirements apply to oversight of inspection of engineering solutions at the client location, when required:
- Ability to stand and move around job sites for up to 8-12 hours per shift
- Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders, as needed
- Ability to maintain balance and stability while performing tasks at heights
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move objects up to 40 pounds as required
- Ability to distinguish colors for tasks involving color-coded materials, labels, or signals
- Ability to hear and communicate with clear speech in industrial environments
- Ability to drive vehicle to site locations.
- Reaching, bending, stooping, crouching, or crawling in and around equipment as required during project inspections, if required
- The ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and steel-toed boots
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination required for inspection
- Adhere to all client and Wunderlich-Malec safety standards
Working EnvironmentOffice Environment:

- Exposure to low, medium and high voltage equipment
