The position requires close collaboration with engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, and field construction teams, as well as regular onsite work and travel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning and startup activities for building automation and control systems, ensuring all components operate according to design and performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems by following existing PLC logic and identifying root causes of issues in coordination with controls and engineering teams.
  • Simulate field signals, including temperature feedback, pressure feedback, and device status points, to validate system performance and control sequences.
  • Support mechanical contractors during testing and balancing activities by coordinating system operations, verifying control responses, and addressing issues identified during testing.
  • Configure and verify IP addresses for power monitoring and electrical monitoring devices to ensure proper network connectivity and data communication.
  • Execute formal commissioning procedures, including test plans and checklists, and thoroughly document results, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, controls, and field construction teams to align on schedules, design intent, and system integration requirements.
  • Identify and resolve system performance issues during startup and commissioning by adjusting control parameters, troubleshooting devices, and escalating complex problems when needed.
  • Interface effectively with mechanical, electrical, and controls vendors to clarify technical requirements, address field issues, and ensure successful integration of all subsystems.
  • Work onsite at construction and startup locations, adapting to fast-paced environments and changing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with controls commissioning, startup, field service, or automation activities in industrial or building automation environments.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems, including reading and following existing PLC logic to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Experience in industrial automation, including familiarity with control systems, field devices, and integration of multiple subsystems.
  • Experience working with industrial automation systems such as Rockwell-based platforms and SCADA environments.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced construction and startup environments, including active job sites and evolving system configurations.
  • Ability to interface professionally and effectively with mechanical, electrical, and controls vendors, as well as internal engineering and construction teams.
  • Willingness to travel and work onsite as required by commissioning and startup schedules.
  • Rockwell Automation experience with PLCs and related control hardware.

  • Data center commissioning experience, including complex power, cooling, and control systems.
  • Manufacturing automation experience with production lines, process control, or material handling systems.
  • Warehouse or distribution center automation experience, including conveyors, sortation, and automated storage systems.
  • Controls integration experience, including connecting disparate systems, configuring communication protocols, and validating end-to-end performance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with building automation and control systems in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Exposure to power monitoring and electrical monitoring devices, including IP configuration and network integration.
  • Familiarity with testing and balancing activities and coordination with mechanical contractors.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording commissioning procedures, test results, and system issues.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors in the field.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and control platforms commonly used in industrial automation and building controls.

Work Environment

The role is primarily onsite at active construction, startup, and commissioning locations, including industrial facilities, data centers, manufacturing plants, and warehouse or distribution environments. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring frequent coordination with engineering, controls, mechanical, electrical, and field construction teams. The position involves working around building automation systems, PLCs, Rockwell Automation platforms, Ignition SCADA, and power and electrical monitoring devices.
