Dimensional Inspection Automation Engineer at TOMZ
Berlin, CT
Do you speak GD&T fluently? Can you turn a drawing and specification into a bulletproof CMM routine? Are Calypso or PCDMIS your goto tools for capturing truth in measurement? If yes, let’s talk.
What you’ll tackle
- Develop, verify, and run automated CMM and metrology programs for firstpiece, inprocess, and final inspections.
- Prove out routines to reduce bias, control linearity, and minimize repeatability/reproducibility errorswhile accounting for Alpha and Beta measurement risks.
- Maintain automated inspection equipment: probe qualifications, routine cleaning, and scale inspections.
- Design/procure fixtures and functional gages that ensure stable, repeatable setups; define instrument criteria and specifications.
- Connect data streams from measurement systems to inspection plans for automatic collection and traceability.
- Build and refine inspection methods, tool maps, FAIs, and inprocess checks; update programs/documents with engineering changes.
- Contribute to rootcause investigations when measurement, tooling, or programming issues arise.
- Lead/support Gage R&R and other MSA studies.
- Support or perform calibration to maintain traceability to national/international standards.
- Author work instructions; train operators on designated automated inspection equipment.
- Take on related duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Ability to interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience with precision instruments and systems: CMMs, Vision Systems, Contracers.
- Clear written and verbal communication (English).
- Fluency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; comfort with Adobe PDF.
- 3D modeling and drafting experience.
- Handson with Calypso CMM or Open DMIS.
- Collaborative approach with R&D, Manufacturing, and QA; able to deliver with minimal oversight.
Nice to have
- Experience in regulated manufacturing (Aerospace, Defense, Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, etc.).
- Knowledge of GMP/ISO standards.
- Background with CT scanning, White Light, and broader 3D metrology.
- Familiarity with PCDMIS or Geomeasure.
- Associate’s degree preferred (Manufacturing or Engineering) or equivalent directly transferable experience.
