Direct Counsel is representing a well-established law firm that is seeking an experiencedCivil Litigation Attorney to join its litigation practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is comfortable managing matters independently and is looking for meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to handle cases from inception through resolution.
The attorney will work on a diverse range of civil litigation matters and collaborate with experienced attorneys and professional staff in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
ResponsibilitiesManage civil litigation matters from initial case evaluation through settlement, trial, or appeal.
Develop case strategy by analyzing facts, applicable law, liability, damages, and potential exposure.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, settlement documents, and other litigation-related materials.
Handle written discovery, document review and production, expert discovery, and related motion practice.
Take and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony.
Represent clients in state and federal court proceedings, including hearings, conferences, motions, and trials.
Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical analysis and recommendations.
Communicate directly with clients regarding case status, strategy, risk, and potential resolution.
Negotiate settlements and work toward efficient and favorable outcomes.
Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to effectively manage matters and meet deadlines.
Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with applicable court rules and deadlines.
The ideal candidate will have:
Active California Bar membership and good standing.
3+ years of civil litigation experience.
Experience managing litigation matters with increasing levels of independence.
Experience with depositions, discovery, motion practice, and court appearances.
Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
Excellent organization and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
Strong communication and client-service skills.
Proficiency with legal research tools and case-management technology.
Trial experience is a plus.
Experience representing businesses, insurers, public entities, or other institutional clients is valued but not required.
