Summary:
DXP-Pumping Solutions is an industrial pump distributor serving nearly every industrial market chemical, water, wastewater, semiconductor, marine, food and beverage, oil and gas, and general industry. We work with nearly every pump brand and type and are looking for someone who is capable of consistently working on high level pump applications and troubleshooting.
Engineering Responsibilities
• Size and select centrifugal, positive displacement, metering, and AODD pumps from process data. Selections are defended on hydraulics, not on software output.
• System curves, total dynamic head and friction losses, NPSH margin and cavitation, viscosity corrections, minimum continuous stable flow, and variable speed versus impeller trim versus throttling.
• Seals and seal support plans, sealless alternatives, materials and elastomers for chemical feed and sanitary service, motors, VFDs, controls, and instrumentation.
• Skid and packaged system design: baseplates, piping layout, pulsation dampening, valving, overpressure protection. Review vendor drawings, general arrangements, P&IDs, and bills of material before release to fabrication.
• Root cause analysis on repeat failures using field data and returned components. Energy and life cycle cost analysis to justify replacement or resizing.
• Technical escalation for Application Specialists and Sales Engineers. Factory interface on engineered-to-order selections. Internal training and selection standards.
Customer & Sales Support
• Technical contact for customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and integrators.
• Review specifications, datasheets, and bid documents. Correct incomplete process data and propose alternates that meet design intent at lower installed or life cycle cost.
• Handle application calls and emails from customers and the sales force. Prepare quotations using manufacturer selection software, catalogs, and cost estimates.
• Follow up open quotes. Price to protect margin. Coordinate submittals, lead times, and change orders with fabrication, purchasing, and vendors.
Project Team Assignments
You will be assigned to project teams building out our fabrication and value-added capability:
• Custom skid program: standard designs, engineering documentation, build procedures, costing, lead times.
• In-house baseplate fabrication and welding. Pump and motor mounting, coupling installation, precision alignment.
• New value-added products and services, including launch training for the sales team.
Qualifications
Required
• Four-year college degree. Engineering preferred; business or another discipline acceptable.
Preferred
• 5+ years in pump application engineering, rotating equipment sales engineering, or industrial fluid system design.
• Able to size and select centrifugal and positive displacement pumps from first principles, not solely from selection software. This matters more to us than anything else on this list.
• ANSI/HI standards, mechanical seals, VFDs and motor controls, fabricated pumping systems. API 610 and 682, ASME B31.3, or NSF/3-A a plus.
• Industrial market experience: chemical, water and wastewater, food and beverage, oil and gas, or general industry.
• Packaged systems, chemical feed systems, separators, or custom skids. AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Distribution or pump OEM application engineering background.
• Able to explain a trade-off to a plant maintenance manager and a design engineer alike.
Preferred Certifications
• Hydraulic Institute PSAP certification or Pump Systems Optimization training
• Professional Engineer (PE), Mechanical
• Vibration Analyst Category I or II (ISO 18436-2), or precision laser alignment training
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector, or AWS D1.1 / D1.6 familiarity
• Fluid Sealing Association seal training, IFPS CFPS, AMPP coatings, OSHA 10 or 30
• Factory certifications on the lines we represent
