The position resolves escalated network issues, supports network changes and service implementations, and assists with the development of customer solutions.

The role combines hands-on troubleshooting, network engineering support, implementation planning, technical documentation, process improvement, and customer-facing technical support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide Tier 2 troubleshooting and escalation support for network, Internet, transport, circuit, and customer connectivity issues.
  • Diagnose routing, switching, VLAN, QoS, bandwidth, and connectivity problems using network configurations, logs, alerts, interface statistics, and performance data.
  • Troubleshoot BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, Ethernet, Internet, VPN, and carrier transport services.
  • Guide NOC staff during complex or service-impacting incidents and coordinate escalations with carriers, vendors, and engineering resources.
  • Support planned network maintenance, upgrades, migrations, customer cutovers, and configuration changes, including post-change validation.
  • Assist with router, switch, firewall, SD-WAN, monitoring, and network-service configurations and deployments.
  • Support implementation planning, testing, proof-of-concept activities, and evaluations of new network technologies.
  • Participate in customer discovery to understand network, bandwidth, resiliency, connectivity, and technical requirements.
  • Review proposed solutions for feasibility, supportability, risks, dependencies, equipment needs, and alignment with network capabilities.
  • Provide technical input for network designs, proposals, statements of work, bills of materials, quotes, and implementation plans.
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions and coordinate the handoff of approved services into implementation and ongoing operations.
  • Maintain network diagrams, configurations, circuit information, troubleshooting guides, implementation records, and technical standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or automate network operations, monitoring, implementation, documentation, and service-delivery processes.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and document root causes, corrective actions, and recommended improvements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three to five or more years of experience in network operations, network engineering, telecommunications, managed services, or a similar technical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production network and customer connectivity issues.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing network services and working with telecommunications carriers or service providers.
  • Ability to read and understand network diagrams and router and switch configurations.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting customer solution design or Sales Engineering activities is preferred.
  • Cisco, networking, or equivalent industry certifications are beneficial but not required.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • TCP/IP, IPv4 addressing, subnetting, routing, and switching.
  • BGP, OSPF, VLANs, Ethernet, MPLS, and SD-WAN.
  • QoS, bandwidth management, VPNs, redundancy, and failover.
  • Firewalls, carrier circuits, Internet services, and basic network-security concepts.
  • Network monitoring and management systems, including Syslog, SNMP, and performance monitoring.

Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Versa, LogicMonitor, or similar platforms is beneficial.

COMPETENCIES SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on escalated network issues.
  • Understanding of both operational support and network design considerations.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into practical, supportable technical solutions.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation, organization, and process-improvement skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across Sales, Engineering, the NOC, vendors, carriers, and customers.
