Position Overview:
The Die Setter is responsible for setting dies and automation tooling, operating press lines, and supporting the safe and efficient movement of coils, sheet metal, dies, and finished parts. This position also operates forklifts and overhead cranes, performs quality inspections and metal rework, maintains production documentation, and supports housekeeping and continuous improvement activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Complete inside and outside die changeovers using an overhead crane.
• Set presses with stamping dies and automation tooling.
• Load stamping dies onto press bolsters.
• Assist with building and installing automation tooling.
• Offload aluminum and steel coils from semi-trucks using a coil grabber.
• Load aluminum and steel coils onto press lines.
• Operate press lines safely and efficiently.
• Rack and organize stamped parts produced on the press line.
• Perform metal rework as needed to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
• Inspect parts and identify sheet metal and aluminum defects.
• Complete required paperwork and production documentation, including check sheets, coil tracking, scrap records, and other applicable forms.
• Perform daily inspections of cranes and forklifts.
• Maintain die storage areas and keep equipment and work areas organized.
• Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities utilizing 5S and TPM processes.
• Assist on production lines and with other manufacturing activities as needed.
• Follow all Environmental, Health & Safety procedures and company policies.
• Complete required training, including crane and forklift certification, PLEX/ERP system training, safety training, and new hire orientation.
• Perform additional duties and work assignments as directed by management.
Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of manufacturing experience required.
• 1 year of press operation experience preferred.
• Experience with stamping presses, dies, automation tooling, or metal forming equipment preferred.
• General knowledge of manufacturing quality systems.
• Ability to identify defects in sheet metal and aluminum components.
• Basic knowledge of ERP systems.
• Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with dies, tooling, and production equipment.
• Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and production documentation.
• Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb, carry, pull, grip, grasp, twist, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the workday.
• Ability to climb or step up and down from press bolsters multiple times throughout the day.
• Ability to remain standing for extended periods, including 8 hours or more.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to obtain a passport.
• Ability to travel within the United States and Canada up to 5%, with travel typically occurring throughout Southeast Michigan.
