Job Description
Job Title: Quality EngineerJob Description

The Quality Engineer serves as the primary project interface for internal value streams and external customer activities, ensuring that designs, specifications, and manufacturing documentation meet customer and industry requirements. This role establishes and maintains robust manufacturing methods that support increasing production volumes, evaluates and resolves product deviations, and drives continuous improvement in quality, safety, and throughput within an advanced aerospace and composite manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the main project interface for internal value streams and external customer events, representing quality interests throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Evaluate design, specifications, and manufacturing documentation to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry quality requirements.
  • Ensure manufacturing methods and processes meet quality standards and remain robust as product volumes increase.
  • Assess products that deviate from standards and requirements, determine the root cause of nonconformities, and define effective corrective and preventive solutions.
  • Approve and support the generation of Non-Conformance (NC) documentation, ensuring accurate definition and classification of nonconforming conditions.
  • Participate in and lead Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities, including Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), to resolve systemic issues.
  • Interpret customer and internal models, drawings, specifications, and Statements of Work to define non-conformance and inspection criteria.
  • Support Quality Control and Supplier Quality functions by clarifying product definition requirements for in-process and incoming inspection of components.
  • Prepare production-related metrics and perform data analysis to identify trends, reduce losses, and increase production throughput.
  • Support the review of engineering documentation, including initial releases and revisions, to verify alignment with customer quality requirements and inspectability of the design configuration.
  • Apply risk management and safety methodologies such as pFMEA, SPC, CAPA, RCCA, and KPI tracking to prevent incidents and support safe flight operations.
  • Incorporate human factors and human error considerations into quality systems and processes to minimize the likelihood of mistakes.
  • Utilize lean process initiatives to reduce waste, streamline workflows, and support continuous improvement in manufacturing and quality operations.
  • Review customer feedback, analyze quality issues, and implement changes that enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead or participate in failure investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions in response to customer complaints.
  • Conduct regular internal and supplier audits to verify consistent implementation and compliance with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Support or conduct first article inspection activities in accordance with AS9102 when required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and supply chain, to ensure quality requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Adapt to dynamic manufacturing conditions, including facility expansion, volume ramp-up activities, and program changes driven by customer needs.
  • Prepare clear documentation, reports, and presentations that communicate quality performance, risks, and improvement initiatives to stakeholders.
Essential Skills
  • 35 years of experience with increasing responsibility in aerospace design, manufacturing, or quality functions, or in advanced manufacturing industries with similar customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality engineering experience, including hands-on involvement with quality inspection, nonconforming product management, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and develop effective corrective action plans.
  • Experience supporting or leading Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities.
  • Background in supplier quality and quality control, including interpreting product definition requirements for in-process and incoming inspection.
  • Practical knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems and audit practices.
  • Experience with AS9102 first article inspection requirements (experience considered essential or strongly preferred based on role scope).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics with strong proficiency in GD&T per ANSI Y14.5 and Y14.41.
  • Ability to interpret customer and internal models, drawings, specifications, and Statements of Work to define non-conformance and inspection criteria.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing production-related metrics to drive improvements in throughput and reduction of losses.
  • Proficiency in risk management and safety tools such as pFMEA, SPC, CAPA, RCCA, and KPI tracking.
  • Understanding of human factors and human error principles and their application in designing processes that reduce the likelihood of mistakes.
  • Ability to apply lean process initiatives to reduce waste and support continuous improvement.
  • Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to adapt and manage dynamic manufacturing conditions, including expansion, volume ramp-up, and frequent program changes.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required, including potential extended travel for initial training.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and clearly document quality findings and recommendations.
  • Comfort working in an environment that does not rely on rigid processes and a demonstrated drive to proactively build and improve systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university, with aerospace or mechanical engineering majors preferred.
  • Associate degree and/or extensive relevant industry experience may be considered in place of a bachelors degree.
  • Experience in composite manufacturing, including exposure to actual composite pieces and parts, is preferred.
  • Experience working within established quality standards and regulatory frameworks in aerospace or similar industries.
  • AS9102 first article inspection experience is considered a plus when not already required.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Siemens Teamcenter, and Siemens Ops Center is considered a plus.
  • Experience with CAD, analysis, or math software tools is considered an advantage.
  • ISO 7001 familiarity is noted as beneficial in addition to ISO 9001 knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standards.
