Job Title: Software Engineer II Grid Service TeamJob Description

As a Software Engineer II on the Grid Service team, you will help design, build, and maintain the core data platform that powers large-scale work management capabilities. The Grid Service layer sits at the foundation of the product, so your contributions will directly influence platform performance, reliability, and the overall experience for every user. You may work remotely from anywhere in the United States where the employer is registered or collaborate with colleagues based out of the Bellevue, WA office.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable back-end services for the next generation of applications using Kotlin and other modern technologies.
  • Solve complex distributed systems challenges and design solutions that operate reliably on modern cloud infrastructure, including AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Develop, document, and support REST APIs that are secure, robust, and easy for other teams to consume.
  • Participate actively in code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions, helping to shape the technical direction and design of the core data platform.
  • Collaborate closely with other software engineers and product managers to refine requirements and deliver impactful features.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on code quality, design patterns, and industry best practices.
  • Build strong partnerships with product management and other key business stakeholders to align technical solutions with product goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production systems, focusing on improving availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and practices to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of professional software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications.
  • Minimum of 2 years of programming experience with full stack technologies such as Kotlin or similar modern languages.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with cloud technologies, including AWS, Azure, or comparable platforms.
  • Hands-on experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts and back-end service design.
  • Proficiency in modern software development practices, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management.
  • Capability to mentor and support junior engineers on technical topics and best practices.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in software development.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on an ongoing basis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Kubernetes and other container orchestration technologies.
  • Background in building and operating services on AWS or Azure cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with full stack development, including both back-end services and front-end integration.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
  • Strong communication skills for participating in architectural discussions and cross-team collaboration.
  • Interest in mentoring and supporting the growth of junior engineers.
  • Comfort working in a distributed, remote-friendly team environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Bellevue, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
