The Quality/Test Engineer 3 researches and tests the design, functionality, and maintenance of products, equipment, systems, and processes to develop and uphold robust quality standards. This role leads corrective actions for customer and internal quality events, champions end-to-end built-in quality practices, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer collaborates closely with manufacturing and engineering teams, manages internal and external customer relationships, and applies structured problem-solving methodologies to enhance product integrity, reliability, and overall operational performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead timely emergency, interim, and permanent corrective actions for both customer and internal quality events, collaborating across disciplines to resolve issues effectively.
  • Act as an ambassador, coach, and sub-workstream lead for end-to-end built-in quality, promoting a strong quality culture across the organization.
  • Lead quality improvement projects utilizing Office 365 tools to track actions, analyze data, and communicate progress.
  • Support internal continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities, implementing solutions, and monitoring results.
  • Manage internal and external customer contact and relationships in partnership with manufacturing engineering teams to address quality concerns and expectations.
  • Exercise a variety of quality tools and techniques, including Six Sigma and 8D methodologies, to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Devise sampling procedures and design and develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Establish programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production equipment, testing systems, measurement tools, analytical equipment, and facilities.
  • Write training material and conduct training sessions on quality control activities to build capability within the organization.
  • Specialize, as needed, in areas of quality control engineering such as design, incoming materials, process control, product evaluation, product reliability, inventory control, metrology, automated testing, software, research and development, or administrative applications.
  • Direct workers engaged in measuring and testing products and in tabulating data related to materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports to assess product integrity and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure good working knowledge and application of quality standards and manufacturing operations in daily activities.
  • Lead teams effectively through structured problem-solving, ensuring adherence to corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Drive compliance with established processes and foster a culture of continuous improvement across operations.

  • Good working knowledge of engineering, design, manufacturing, and maintenance processes.
  • Excellent proficiency in Office 365 applications with strong focus on data analysis.
  • Good verbal, influencing, and numerical skills with the ability to lead teams effectively through problem solving.
  • Strong ability to motivate, influence, and drive compliance and continuous improvement across teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • 57 years of experience in quality engineering.
  • Experience leading quality improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
  • Experience in customer-facing quality roles, including internal and external relationship management.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training materials on quality control activities.
  • Capability to work across multiple quality domains such as process control, product evaluation, reliability, metrology, automated testing, or software-related quality.
  • Professional approach with the capability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Work Environment

The role operates in a manufacturing and engineering-focused environment that emphasizes built-in quality and continuous improvement. The Quality/Test Engineer 3 works closely with manufacturing engineering teams, production personnel, and internal and external customers, often collaborating on the shop floor and in office settings. The position uses a variety of tools and technologies, including Office 365 applications for analysis and reporting, Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, measurement and testing equipment, and analytical instruments to evaluate product and process quality. Work involves interpreting technical drawings and reports, directing testing activities, and participating in structured problem-solving sessions. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Decatur, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
