The Position:

The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership of the company, ensuring the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of sign construction, installation, maintenance, and service activities. This position oversees field operations, dispatch coordination, fleet management, safety compliance, office administration, inventory control, and facilities operations while supporting the company's commitment to quality, customer service, and employee development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily dispatch activities for installation, service, maintenance, and construction crews, ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, equipment allocation, and job-site readiness.
  • Monitor daily field operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, service managers, and crew leaders to address scheduling conflicts and operational challenges.
  • Review labor utilization and productivity to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Support emergency service calls and operational priorities as required.
  • Manage daily office operations and administrative personnel.
  • Establish and maintain operational procedures and workflows, and monitor operational KPIs, reporting, and departmental performance.
  • Facilitate communication between field personnel, office staff, vendors, and management.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently throughout the organization.
  • Supervise office, dispatch, shop, warehouse, and designated field personnel, including coaching, performance discussions, hiring, onboarding, training, and workforce planning.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional conduct.
  • Administer and maintain the company's safety program in compliance with OSHA, NYC DOB, DOT, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, employee safety training, and routine site safety inspections and audits.
  • Investigate safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, identify job-site hazards, and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly.
  • Monitor safety performance and maintain required certifications, inspection records, safety documentation, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and proper use of PPE, fall protection, rigging equipment, and traffic control measures.
  • Oversee the company's fleet of trucks, cranes, bucket trucks, service vehicles, and trailers, including maintenance, repairs, inspections, registrations, permits, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor vehicle and equipment utilization, condition, operational readiness, maintenance performance, and downtime.
  • Supervise mechanic workload and maintenance priorities, coordinate equipment availability with operational schedules, and maintain service records and equipment maintenance history.
  • Ensure appropriate inventory levels for installation materials, electrical components, hardware, safety supplies, and vehicle stock, including receiving, inspection, purchasing, tracking, and cycle counts.
  • Identify inventory shortages, obsolete materials, and cost-saving opportunities while ensuring inventory systems remain accurate and organized.
  • Oversee the organization, cleanliness, maintenance, and operational efficiency of warehouse and yard facilities, including storage practices, material handling, and equipment inspections.
  • Monitor operational expenses and departmental budgets.
  • Review fleet, inventory, maintenance, and other operational costs to identify efficiency and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support purchasing and vendor management activities.
  • Assist leadership with forecasting operational resource requirements, operational planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 15 years of construction, sign industry, service operations, or field operations management experience, including leadership experience.
  • Experience managing dispatch, fleet, and field personnel.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and NYC construction safety requirements.
  • Strong inventory control and warehouse management experience.
  • Experience supervising mechanics and fleet maintenance operations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems (NetSuite is preferable), and fleet management software.

The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 annually, depending on experience. The final offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, and demonstrated skills.
