General Manager – Direct Hire Opportunity | Ann Arbor, MI | $105,000–$115,000

Reliance One is hiring an experienced General Manager for one of our clients in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Candidates MUST have experience within the recycling, Material Recovery Facility (MRF), solid waste, or a closely related industry.

This leadership opportunity is ideal for an operations professional with experience overseeing multiple divisions, developing operational teams, improving facility performance, and managing the safety, financial, regulatory, and day-to-day operations of recycling or material-processing facilities.

• Location: Ann Arbor, MI

• Salary: $105,000–$115,000 annually

• Operational leadership position

• Occasional nights, weekends, and off-hours may be required

What You'll Be Doing:

• Oversee and optimize daily operations across recycling and material-processing facilities

• Lead divisional managers while maintaining productivity, safety, quality, and performance standards

• Develop and execute operational strategies in partnership with senior leadership

• Monitor KPIs and operational metrics across multiple business divisions

• Lead weekly operational meetings and provide coaching and direction to management teams

• Oversee facility reporting, vendor activity, commodities, basket value, and inbound/outbound commodity shipments

• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve operational performance

• Analyze operational data and implement continuous-improvement initiatives

• Maintain quality-control standards for recycled materials and customer requirements

• Manage divisional budgets, expenses, resources, and overall financial performance

• Oversee operational components of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, invoicing, and annual reporting

• Support RFPs and bids by evaluating staffing, fleet routing, services, and operational costs

• Manage the operational scope of funded grant projects

• Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, environmental, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations

• Lead employee development, performance management, training, and operational workforce initiatives

• Develop relationships with municipal, commercial, hauling, vendor, customer, and governmental partners

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of operational management experience overseeing multiple divisions within recycling, material recovery, solid waste, or a closely related industry

• Strong understanding of recycling plant operations and/or high-speed, labor-based industrial operations

• Experience with DOT and OSHA requirements, permits, licenses, and applicable regulatory requirements

• Proven experience leading, coaching, developing, and motivating operational managers and employees

• Strong project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

• Experience developing relationships with municipal, commercial, and hauling partners

• Experience managing budgets, operational KPIs, and business performance

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated success leading continuous-improvement initiatives

• Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, and off-hours when operational needs require

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred

• Equivalent professional experience will also be considered

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

This position works across office, warehouse, processing, and outdoor operational environments. Candidates should be comfortable working around active recycling and material-processing operations and in varying weather conditions.

• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds when required

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, squat, or kneel for extended periods

The ideal General Manager is a hands-on operational leader who understands the realities of running a recycling, MRF, or solid waste operation.
