Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Plant Controller to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of our manufacturing facility. Reporting to corporate finance, this role bridges plant operations and financial reporting by overseeing cost accounting, inventory tracking, and operational variance analysis to support plant profitability.

Compensation & Leveling

  • Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Target Experience Level: Mid-level / Emerging Controller (approx. 3 to 6 years of experience)

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Accounting & Variances: Maintain the standard cost system, analyze daily/weekly material, labor, and overhead variances, and partner with production managers to investigate root causes.
  • Inventory Valuations: Oversee monthly cycle counts, raw material and WIP valuations, and inventory obsolescence tracking.
  • Month-End Close: Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and plant P&L statements in alignment with corporate close schedules.
  • Operational Budgeting: Assist in building the annual plant operating budget, tracking CapEx projects, and monitoring departmental spend against forecasts.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying labor inefficiencies, equipment utilization gaps, and margin leaks on the shop floor.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus but not required for this tier.
  • Experience: 3 to 6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years spent in a manufacturing or industrial cost accounting environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, NetSuite, SAP Business One) and intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data modeling).
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial plant supervisors and production leads.
