Job Description

Job Description: Materials Manager

Company: Power Systems International, LLC Location: Waterloo, IA Area Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus (Up to $10,000 annually based on inventory accuracy and on-time project staging)

About the Role

Power Systems International is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Materials Manager to oversee our shipping, receiving, and project kitting operations. Unlike high-volume retail distribution centers, our facility operates on a project basis. Your primary mission is to ensure absolute accuracy in our inventory, receive and verify specialized components, and meticulously stage equipment for seamless project deployment.

The ideal candidate prioritizes data integrity and quality control over sheer speed, ensuring our engineering and deployment teams have exactly what they need, when they need it, with zero defects.

Key Responsibilities

Inbound Quality Control & Receiving

  • Inspect all incoming freight and parcels with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring exact matches against purchase orders.
  • Identify, document, and immediately resolve any discrepancies, damages, or missing components directly with vendors.
  • Log all received items into the ERP/inventory management system in real-time to maintain 100% data integrity.

Project Staging & Kitting

  • Receive disparate parts and equipment over extended timelines and organize them into dedicated, secure project staging areas.
  • Assemble complete, ready-to-deploy project kits based on detailed bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Conduct final audits on outgoing kits to ensure zero missing components prior to deployment.

Freight & Vendor Coordination

  • Schedule and manage outbound shipments, primarily focusing on Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and specialized freight.
  • Track delayed incoming freight and hold carriers and vendors accountable for delivery timelines.
  • Negotiate shipping rates and optimize freight logistics for cost and reliability.

Facility & Inventory Management

  • Maintain a clean, highly organized, and safe warehouse environment optimized for project staging rather than bulk storage.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and reconcile any inventory discrepancies immediately.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in shipping/receiving, inventory control, or materials management.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or project-based environment is highly preferred over retail distribution.
  • Strong proficiency with ERP, WMS, or digital inventory management systems.
  • Proven experience coordinating LTL freight and managing vendor relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detaila single missing component can halt a project, so accuracy is your top priority.
  • Ability to operate standard material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and effectively.

Why Join Us?

At Power Systems International, you aren't just moving boxes; you are a critical part of our project lifecycle. We offer a compensation structure that directly rewards your accuracy and organizational skills, along with a stable, professional environment where your attention to detail directly impacts the success of our deployments.
