Mid to Senior-level civil engineering position focusing on the performance of both routine and complex activities related to civil site design, grading, erosion and sediment control, permitting, and site layout for substation projects.
Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
- Prepares RFP’s for site civil work and permitting.
- Reviews proposals from site civil and permitting firms for adherence to scope and evaluate cost.
- Manages subcontractors for schedule and performance.
- Ensures client standards are applied to site designs.
- Performs QA reviews on subcontractor’s deliverables.
- Performs QA reviews of grading developed from substation LiDAR scans.
- Provides support to the substation team by answering civil site questions developed by internal teams or by clients.
- Performs complex civil engineering tasks requiring the application of site development principles to prepare calculations, drawings, construction documents, specifications, and engineering evaluations using in-depth knowledge of grading, soils, drainage, and erosion control design.
- Leads the design of site layouts, grading plans, stormwater management systems, erosion and sediment control plans, and utility coordination in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
- Develops and maintains civil design standards, typical details, and engineering practices related to grading, drainage, and erosion control for multiple clients.
- Coordinates with surveyors, architects, geotechnical engineers, environmental consultants, contractors, and permitting agencies to support project execution.
- Provides technical oversight during permitting, bidding, and construction phases, including responses to agency comments and construction-related inquiries.
- Leads and mentors designers in Civil 3D workflows, design standards, and quality control practices.
- Works closely with designers and drafters to guide the development of construction-ready plan sets.
Desired Education, Experience and Training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in civil site design or land development engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in grading and earthwork design, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management and drainage systems, soils and geotechnical coordination, and site layout and utility routing.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Ability to independently execute projects while contributing to larger, multi-discipline project teams.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
