Overview We’re hiring an experienced Line Patroller / Utility Locator for an onsite, field-based contract role in North Dakota (Williston preferred). In this role, you’ll locate, mark, and document underground pipelines, electrical/automation cables, and other facilities to support safe excavation and prevent utility damage.
Responsibilities
- Locate, mark, and document pipelines, electrical, and automation cables, and other underground facilities owned or operated by the company.
- Report all unsafe and environmental issues to supervisor.
- Seek out new ways of doing things.
- Protect underground utilities during projects involving excavations.
- Help in other areas of the business as needed.
- Maintain company vehicle and equipment appropriately.
- Use a locator to locate and mark all utilities required by the company, witness all 3rd party crossings, document, update ticket status, and file all required paperwork.
- Responsible for using and taking care of locating equipment and hand tools.
- Perform work with little supervision.
- Manage multiple priorities and meet required deadlines.
- Follow company policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General knowledge of compressor stations, gathering systems, and processing plant operations.
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer orientation.
- Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to other employees and outside contractors.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
- Valid state operating license with acceptable driving record determined by the company.
- Uses physical force to lift, push, pull, and hold equipment/tools.
- Climbs and works at various heights.
- May work in various positions including standing, sitting, lying down, crouched, or kneeling.
- Regularly reacts to visual, aural, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and inspects work visually.
- Frequently bends, stoops, moves from ground level to higher levels, lifts loads up to 50 lbs., transports weights up to 75 lbs., and applies up to 150 pounds of torque.
- Gets into and out of vehicles and rides over rough roads.
- Walks an average of 5 to 7 miles per day.
- Candidates may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Subject to overtime and callouts.
- Works mostly outdoors, around mechanical, industrial, and electrical equipment.
- May need to climb equipment and work in confined spaces.
- May work in hazardous conditions including hydrocarbon vapor, adverse weather, and extreme temperatures.
- Wears safety equipment as required.
