Controls Engineer – Asheboro, NC; Open to areas:Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem, NC
A well-established engineering and systems integration firm is seeking a Controls Engineer to join its team in Asheboro, NC. This position will be responsible for controls engineering projects involving control system design, control panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, system checkout, commissioning, and startup support.
The Controls Engineer will work on automation and control system integration projects across multiple industries, including manufacturing production lines and data center building automation. This individual will also serve as a technical lead on projects, provide guidance to engineers and technicians, and manage smaller projects.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement control systems, including logic software and hardware, to meet process and system requirements
Develop electrical schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring
Design equipment panel layouts using AutoCAD
Develop Sequence of Operation documents outlining control strategies for processes under control
Lead design reviews with customers and obtain approval of design documentation
Perform system checkout, commissioning, and startup activities at customer sites
Develop final record documentation and provide system training to customers
Serve as a technical lead on assigned projects and provide guidance to engineers and technicians
Work directly with customers, subcontractors, and internal project teams throughout the project lifecycle
Support automation and controls integration projects across manufacturing and data center environments
Project Management
For smaller projects ranging from approximately $50K to $250K, the Controls Engineer may serve as Project Manager and will:
Develop and execute project implementation plans
Assign work and coordinate resources to meet project deadlines
Ensure project team members clearly understand project scope and responsibilities
Develop project schedules based on internal and customer requirements
Monitor project progress and communicate changes as needed
Manage purchasing and subcontractor requirements
Develop project costs and prepare proposals for change orders
Coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure successful project execution
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering preferred
3+ years of controls and automation experience
Strong understanding of industrial control systems, components, logic programming, instrumentation, and controls design
Experience with SCADA platforms such as Rockwell, Inductive Automation Ignition, or AVEVA/Wonderware
Experience with PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation and Siemens
Experience with DeltaV, AutoCAD, FANUC, Keyence, or Cognex Vision Systems is a plus
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to effectively work with engineers, technicians, subcontractors, and customers
Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%
