We are looking for a dependable, organized, and hands-on Shipping Department Supervisor to lead our shipping team. This is an important role within our manufacturing operation, responsible for maintaining a safe, organized, productive, and efficient shipping environment while ensuring customer orders are prepared accurately and on schedule.

Position Overview

The Shipping Department Supervisor will oversee the daily activities and performance of shipping employees. This person will organize the daily workload, assign responsibilities, monitor progress, maintain quality standards, and ensure employees follow established shipping procedures.

The ideal candidate has previous shipping or warehouse experience and the ability to lead a team by setting clear expectations, maintaining accountability, and creating a positive work environment.

This is a hands-on supervisory position for someone who takes ownership of their department, pays attention to detail, and understands the importance of getting orders right the first time.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Supervise, direct, and support shipping department employees in their daily responsibilities.
  • Organize and monitor the daily workload to ensure shipping targets and deadlines are met.
  • Assign work and coordinate staffing to maintain an efficient, productive workflow.
  • Establish clear expectations for productivity, quality, safety, attendance, and workplace conduct.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented working environment.
  • Train employees on shipping procedures, safe work practices, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and address performance issues promptly.
  • Communicate staffing, workload, and operational concerns to management.

Shipping Accuracy & Quality Control

  • Ensure finished products are correctly identified, labeled, palletized, wrapped, and prepared for shipment.
  • Verify that orders are properly packaged and match the applicable shipping documentation.
  • Ensure employees follow established procedures to prevent incorrect shipments, damaged products, and labeling errors.
  • Monitor shipping accuracy and identify opportunities to reduce mistakes, rework, and delays.
  • Ensure shipments are staged, organized, and ready for carrier pickup according to established schedules.
  • Coordinate with the Logistics Manager regarding order readiness, shipping priorities, and changes affecting daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, manufacturing, or distribution.
  • Previous supervisory, team-lead, or employee-training experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead employees, set expectations, and hold team members accountable in a fair and professional manner.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and respond to changing daily demands.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and correct operational issues.
  • Dependable, proactive, and committed to maintaining a productive work environment.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn company inventory and shipping systems.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift or willingness to obtain the necessary training.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and perform hands-on warehouse work as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with employees and management.
  • Commitment to following company procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to drive a forklift is strongly preferred.
