Cook

Summary Responsible for providing the highest possible level of service and food quality for the benefit of residents and their guests. A skilled and experienced cook will assist with food preparation in our kitchen and comply with leadership's instructions and recommendations.

Essential Functions

· Prepares and plates a variety of foods following company approved recipes and specifications.

· Maintains sanitary conditions and organization in the kitchen. Participates in cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen.

Required Skills/Abilities

Consistent execution of quality customer service. Maintains and demonstrates ethical conduct. Able to effectively communicate with geriatric and/or confused residents and a variety of other people such as family members, visitors, vendors, Private Duty Residents, and staff. Positive and constructive attitude. Has knowledge of standard cooking techniques and food safety practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervision responsibilities.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

This position is required to regularly work on campus.

Works in a well-lit and well-ventilated facility. May be exposed to confused, belligerent or physically aggressive residents, may be exposed to contagious diseases and mental stress. Subject to frequent interruptions. Manual dexterity, good vision and hearing is required. Must be able to read products labels and distinguish colors.

May be exposed to heat, water, steam and odors from food preparation. Subject to sudden temperature changes when entering coolers and freezers. Is at risk for burns from hot foods and equipment. Is at risk for cuts from knives. Is at risk for slipping on wet floors. Works odd hours like late evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands: Position requires standing and walking most of the day.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications

· 1 – 3 years’ experience as a cook or related job title required, preferably in a fast-paced commercial or restaurant kitchen.

· Valid Oregon Food Handler’s Card required.
