About the Role:

As a Mechanic within the Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services industry, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. Your expertise will directly impact the reliability of the fleet by diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical systems, including brakes, fuel systems, and hydraulics. You will be responsible for performing thorough inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of diesel trucks and related machinery. Collaboration with other maintenance personnel and adherence to safety and environmental regulations will be essential to your success. Ultimately, your work will support the organization's mission by enabling smooth and safe transportation and waste management operations across the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or in a similar mechanical maintenance role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate diesel trucks as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from a recognized institution such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) in diesel mechanics.
  • Experience working within the waste management or environmental services industry.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with electronic engine controls and alternators.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends or emergency call-outs.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical issues in diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulics using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and related equipment, including replacement of gaskets, alternators, and brake components.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential problems and implement preventative maintenance strategies to reduce equipment failure.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to prioritize repair schedules and support emergency breakdowns to minimize operational disruptions.

The required skills such as expertise in brakes, diesel engines, hydraulics, and fuel systems are essential for diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues on diesel trucks and equipment daily. Proficiency with diesel mechanics and braking systems ensures that safety-critical components are maintained to the highest standards, reducing the risk of operational failures. Knowledge of gaskets and alternators supports effective replacement and repair tasks that keep vehicles running smoothly. Preferred skills like certification and experience with computerized maintenance systems enhance efficiency and accuracy in maintenance scheduling and record-keeping. Together, these skills enable the mechanic to deliver reliable, safe, and compliant vehicle maintenance that supports the organization's operational goals.
