Client: Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Duration: 12 Months – Possibility of Extension & Conversion
Location: Dubuque, IA 52001
Shift: 3rd Shift | 10:30 PM – 6:00 AM
Schedule: Some Saturday work required

Description:

Job Summary

Supervise production and/or maintenance employees on an assigned shift to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost objectives. Serve as the first-line liaison between shop-floor employees and management while ensuring production goals and company standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise semi-skilled to highly skilled production and maintenance employees.
  • Manage daily staffing, employee assignments, overtime, and production priorities.
  • Monitor safety, quality, delivery, efficiency, and production performance.
  • Ensure employees have appropriate training, work instructions, and tools.
  • Troubleshoot workmanship and production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, work rules, and performance expectations.
  • Support employee engagement through regular communication, feedback, and guidance.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including SERA, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Drive 5S, Continuous Improvement, manpower planning, and operating-budget objectives.
  • Monitor production schedules and ensure on-time customer delivery.
  • Plan equipment and facility maintenance to maximize uptime and utilization.
  • Monitor department spending and maintain operating budget targets.
  • Oversee quality requirements and ensure products meet established standards.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Supply Management, Operations, and HR/Labor Relations.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • 1+ year of experience with manufacturing and quality management principles, tools, and processes.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekdays or weekends, based on operational needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to conduct crucial conversations and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Experience communicating across multiple business functions.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • 1+ year of experience with production control systems, preferably John Deere.
  • 1+ year of leadership experience in a union environment.
  • 2+ years of shop-floor manufacturing and incentive pay system experience, such as CIPP.
  • Cross-functional experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Material Control, or Supply Management.
  • Experience using Lean Manufacturing techniques for business improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, SAP, SharePoint, and Power BI.
  • Experience with production and operations information systems.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology, Operations, Business/Management, or Supply Management, or equivalent related work experience.
