Position Overview

The Packaging Engineer will support the development, design, testing, and implementation of packaging solutions for a variety of products. Working with guidance from experienced engineering team members, this role will assist with packaging design, structural development, palletization, supplier coordination, and technical feasibility testing. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented self-starter with strong visualization skills and an interest in packaging design and manufacturing.

Major Responsibilities
  • Create detailed packaging component drawings and engineering change requests.
  • Develop multi-product pallet patterns that are stable, stackable, and suitable for transportation and distribution.
  • Support technical feasibility builds with manufacturing plants, including evaluating designs and completing cost assessments.
  • Assist with packaging design, material selection, prototyping, and supplier quote development.
  • Present packaging design concepts and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams to develop practical packaging solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, product requirements, and transportation considerations to packaging designs.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to packaging quality, cost, efficiency, and manufacturability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering required.
  • 1+ year of experience in packaging engineering or packaging design; relevant co-op or internship experience will be considered.
  • Basic understanding of packaging manufacturing processes, including printing, die-cutting, thermoforming, injection molding, and blow molding.
  • Working knowledge of packaging materials, including corrugated, paperboard, and plastics, and their characteristics as they relate to structural packaging design.
  • Familiarity with ArtiosCAD, TOPS/CAPE, MaxLoad, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong sketching, visualization, and conceptual design skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative while working effectively within a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
