Pay Range: $23 to $25/ hour

Position summary

The Quality Control Inspector I performs routine visual, dimensional, and assigned functional inspections under established plans and appropriate guidance. The role verifies that inspected product meets applicable requirements, maintains complete records, and promptly identifies and escalates suspected nonconformances. The Inspector I develops independence through training and documented qualification.

Essential duties and responsibilities

The following duties are essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform them.

  • Inspect in-process work and finished products against current drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and work instructions.
  • Use measuring and test equipment within documented qualifications; check identification and calibration status before use.
  • Record inspection and test results, product identification, traceability, and acceptance evidence accurately in required systems and records.
  • Identify suspected nonconforming product, protect or segregate it according to procedure, and promptly notify authorized Quality and Production personnel.
  • Follow approved inspection methods, safety rules, and Caton Quality Management System procedures; escalate unclear criteria, out-of-tolerance results, or abnormal conditions before accepting product.
  • Communicate factual inspection findings to Production, Quality, Engineering, and Materials and support timely resolution within assigned authority.
  • Perform routine sampling, measurements, and basic tests as specified by the applicable plan or procedure.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other assigned equipment after training; seek assistance for specialized methods or uncertain results.
  • Assist with inspection reports, investigations, audits, first article records, and improvement activities when assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Relevant hands-on manufacturing, inspection, or measurement experience is beneficial; prior inspection experience is not required when training and aptitude are demonstrated.

Required skills and competencies

  • Ability to read assigned drawings, specifications, and work instructions with training.
  • Careful use of basic measuring tools and accurate recording of measurements and results.
  • Attention to detail, sound communication, teamwork, and basic computer skills.

Preferred: Technical coursework, cable or electromechanical assembly familiarity, or prior use of digital quality records.

Physical requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. The role requires sustained attention to detailed work; use of hands and fingers to handle small parts and measurement tools; sitting or standing for extended periods; and moving between inspection and production areas. Occasional handling or carrying of product samples and inspection equipment may be required.

Work environment

Work occurs in inspection and manufacturing areas and may involve hand tools, production equipment, electrical test equipment, adhesives, and moderate noise. Follow applicable safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment.
