Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Forklift Operator

Job Description

This role supports the shipping and receiving department by safely handling, packing, and preparing materials for shipment, with a strong focus on operating sit-down forklifts and overhead cranes to move large steel beams. The position involves hands-on material handling, inventory support, and general labor tasks to ensure accurate, timely, and organized shipment and receipt of goods.

Responsibilities

• Work in the shipping and receiving department to pack and prepare products and materials for shipment.
• Use a sit-down forklift to safely load and unload trucks, including large and heavy materials such as steel beams.
• Move, locate, and stage materials throughout the facility to support production and shipping schedules.
• Check in incoming shipments by verifying paperwork, quantities, and materials received.
• Complete and maintain accurate shipping and receiving paperwork and documentation.
• Organize materials and finished goods in designated areas to maintain an orderly and efficient workspace.
• Perform deburring of parts as needed to prepare materials for shipment or further processing.
• Handle materials manually and with equipment as part of daily material handling and general labor tasks.
• Operate overhead cranes, when trained and assigned, to move and position large steel beams and other heavy materials.
• Assist with inventory control activities, including counting, tracking, and locating materials and products.
• Build crates, band materials, and secure loads to ensure safe and damage-free transportation.
• Support order selection and packaging activities to ensure accuracy and completeness of outgoing shipments.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the shipping and receiving and material handling zones.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of shipping experience.
• At least 2 years of packing experience.
• At least 1 year of sit-down forklift operating experience.
• Hands-on experience in shipping and receiving operations.
• Ability to perform packing and packaging tasks, including banding and crate building.
• Experience with material handling in a production or warehouse environment.
• Ability to perform general labor tasks related to shipping, receiving, and inventory support.
• Experience with inventory control and order selection in a warehouse or production setting.
• Ability to safely operate a sit-down forklift to load and unload trucks and move materials.
• Basic familiarity with SAP or similar systems for shipping, receiving, or inventory control (as referenced in skills).
• Ability to work in a physically demanding role, handling large and heavy materials such as steel beams.
• Strong attention to detail when checking in shipments and completing paperwork.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• At least 1 year of overhead crane operating experience is a plus.
• At least 1 year of experience in a steel manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience deburring parts or working with metal components is beneficial.
• Prior experience in production environments involving packing, shipping, and receiving is advantageous.
• Comfort working with large steel beams and heavy industrial materials.
• Familiarity with packaging practices such as banding, crate building, and securing loads for transport.
• Ability to adapt to facility improvements and changes as the building and infrastructure are upgraded over time.

Work Environment

The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with minimal overtime required. The work involves frequent use of sit-down forklifts and, when applicable, overhead cranes to move large steel beams and other heavy materials. Team members perform hands-on material handling, general labor, and packing tasks in a production-oriented setting, and can expect the facility and infrastructure to evolve as significant investments and a new building project are completed in the coming years.

This is a Contract position based out of Racine, WI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Racine,WI.
