About the Role: American Power Equipment Inc is looking for a skilled Small Engine Mechanic to join our team in Carol Stream, IL! This is a hands-on opportunity to do what you love every day diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of small engine-powered equipment in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.
Responsibilities:- Diagnose and repair small engines on outdoor power equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and generators
- Perform routine maintenance including tune-ups, oil changes, blade sharpening, and filter replacements
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues on 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines
- Inspect and test equipment before and after repairs to ensure proper operation
- Order and manage parts inventory, ensuring accurate documentation of repairs
- Communicate repair status and recommendations clearly to customers and service staff
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop
Requirements:- Prior experience as a small engine mechanic or in a related repair/service role
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines
- Familiarity with major brands such as Husqvarna, STIHL, Honda, Briggs & Stratton, or similar
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical diagrams
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair jobs efficiently
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
