We are seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the technical coordination of complex industrial automation projects. This role bridges software, robotics, electrical, mechanical, controls, and manufacturing disciplines to ensure complete systems are designed, integrated, tested, and delivered successfully.
The ideal candidate understands how robotic cells, CNC equipment, automation software, vision systems, controls, and manufacturing processes work together. They will be responsible for defining system requirements, coordinating between engineering teams, managing technical deliverables from third-party vendors, and ensuring all subsystems integrate into a cohesive solution.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead responsible for overall system architecture and integration across software, robotics, controls, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
- Define system requirements, functional specifications, interface documents, and acceptance criteria for automation projects.
- Translate customer requirements into clear technical requirements for internal teams and external vendors.
- Develop comprehensive technical packages, statements of work, and specifications for third-party suppliers.
- Coordinate and hold vendors accountable for meeting technical, schedule, performance, and quality requirements.
- Evaluate technical proposals, designs, and deliverables from suppliers and integration partners.
- Ensure proper integration between:
- Industrial robots and robotic tooling
- CNC machines, machining centers, and manufacturing equipment
- PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems
- Machine vision and inspection systems
- Sensors, safety equipment, and industrial networks
- Custom software and operator interfaces
- Collaborate with software engineers, robotics engineers, controls engineers, and mechanical designers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with system integration and performance.
- Support commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer installations.
- Review test plans and validation results to ensure systems meet performance and reliability requirements.
- Provide technical leadership during troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including requirements, architecture diagrams, interface specifications, and operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, automation, manufacturing, robotics, controls, or industrial systems integration.
- Experience working with complex industrial automation systems and manufacturing equipment.
- Strong understanding of robotic automation, CNC machining, industrial controls, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to understand and communication across software, mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering disciplines.
- Experience defining technical requirements and managing vendor deliverables.
- Experience creating specifications, statements of work, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with industrial robotics. For example: Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, motion control, and machine safety.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, grinding, welding, assembly, inspection, and material handling.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and systems-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, organization, and project coordination abilities.
