Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor / Packaging Supervisor to manage the daily activities of an industrial food grade packaging department within a 24/7 manufacturing operation. This hands-on leadership role oversees approximately 30 direct reports across production, packaging, and warehouse operations and drives department reliability and continuous-improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with the mechanical aptitude to help run and troubleshoot line equipment when needed.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily can line production/packaging operations, ensuring the department is properly staffed, planned, and executed.
- Supervise and develop approximately 30 direct reports across the packaging and warehouse areas, including shift leads and line operators, handling training, work assignments, complaints, and problem resolution.
- Build and manage production/packaging and personnel schedules to meet output goals.
- Partner with Maintenance on equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, work orders, root-cause analysis, and continuous-improvement projects to reduce downtime and improve OEE.
- Provide hands-on mechanical support by operating, adjusting, and troubleshooting can line equipment during staffing gaps, changeovers, or breakdowns.
- Control materials and finished goods inventories and oversee all production documentation and department data entry.
- Own the safety performance of the department.
Skills and Qualifications
- Technical degree from a 2-year accredited college, or equivalent or greater.
- 10+ years of experience in a high-volume production, production/manufacturing, or logistics facility.
- 5+ years of leadership experience with direct reports.
- Mechanical aptitude sufficient to operate, adjust, and troubleshoot packaging equipment and assist in running the line if needed.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally, especially with Maintenance, to achieve production goals.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret documents and speak effectively before groups.
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Other Relevant Information
- On-site 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, dayshift.
